The Studio
A small studio, on purpose.
Halstead Lane was founded in 2026 to design residential interiors in a warmer, quieter register — and to do it at a scale where the person you meet is the person who designs your rooms.
Why We Started
Most interiors fail in one of two ways. They are decorated rather than designed — assembled from whatever happens to be current — or they are so severe that nobody can put a glass down.
We started Halstead Lane to work in the space between: rooms with real structure and real restraint, made from materials that get better rather than worse, and warm enough to absorb an ordinary Tuesday without looking disturbed.
The studio is new. That is a fact about us, not a disclaimer — it means we are not running fourteen jobs at once, not repeating a signature, and not too large to care what the light does in your hallway at four in the afternoon. We would rather do a few rooms extremely well than many of them adequately.
How We Work
Five commitments we hold to.
Few at a time
We cap concurrent projects deliberately. It keeps lead times honest, and it means a question asked on Tuesday gets an answer on Tuesday.
Transparent on money
A flat design fee, quoted once the scope is clear, and item pricing you can actually see. We will tell you when something can be done for less — and when it genuinely cannot.
Material before mood
We choose the oak, the plaster and the stone before we choose the look. Get the substance right and the atmosphere arrives on its own.
Built to be lived in
Every specification is checked against real life — children, dogs, dinner, afternoon sun. A room that cannot take any of those is not finished, it is staged.
Where We Work
New York, and a comfortable drive from it.
The studio is based in New York and takes residential work across the city, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and the Jersey and Long Island shores. Sourcing and procurement we will handle anywhere in the continental United States.
